Artavia Murillo et al. (“In vitro fertilization”) v. Costa Rica

This case concerns human rights violations resulting from the State's general prohibition of the practice of in vitro fertilization. The victims, couples affected by fertility problems, argued that the prohibition constituted an arbitrary interference into the right to a private life, the right to start a family, and the right to equality. The Court found that the State violated the American Convention on Human Rights.
